Two Vilnius ceramicists — Beatrice Keleriene
and Vygantas Vasaitis — devoted to ancient techniques
and to vessels made for daily life.
The work of two Lithuanian ceramicists, shaped by earth and fire. Beatrice Keleriene and Vygantas Vasaitis both keep their studios in Vilnius, and both share a deep devotion to ancient ceramic traditions and to vessels made for daily life. Beatrice works at a wood-fired kiln built in her own garden, drawing inspiration from excavated historical pottery and from her ongoing study of Japanese anagama kilns. Vygantas forms his pieces on a foot-powered kick wheel and decorates them with pointillist patterns applied with tools made from animal horn — a motif found in Lithuania's traditional Easter eggs, where abstracted points have long evoked wind and water. Marks of the hand, the fire, and of time itself. Quiet, living vessels born where earth and flame meet.
